Black and white: from shooting to printing [Intensive – basic level]

This workshop is open to all those photographers and beginners who desire to approach to the darkroom, film developing and black and white printing; the aim of the workshop is to explore at entry level the whole workflow from the shot to the final print and its components and materials, to obtain primary level skills in b/w film photography.

Given its basic level, the workshop is open to individuals who have no previous experience in the darkroom. The workshop includes a guided shooting session; use of a film camera (any 120 or 135 film camera…) is hence required.

Workshop program

day 1 – Friday

9.30 – 11.00 am: arrival, registration and accommodation; introduction to the workshop;

11.30 am. – 4.00 pm: first guided shooting session

4.30 – 7.00 pm: technical discussion: film camera, exposure metering, scene contrast.

8.30 pm: welcome dinner

day 2 – Saturday

8.30 am – 1.00 pm: second guided shooting session;

2.00 pm – 6.00 pm: film developing;

6.30 – 9.00 pm; contact sheets printing.

day 3 – Sunday

9.00 am – 1.00 pm: first guided printing session;

2.30 – 6.00 pm: second guided printing session;

6,30 – 7.30 pm: final discussion on results;

7.45 pm: workshop closing.

The program is to be considered indicative and subject to change if necessary to facilitate or better organize the work of the attendees.

Tuition: euro 350,00

Maximum no. of participants: 6

Workshop fee includes: 2x roll films (120 or 135), basic chemicals and their disposal or recycle, photographic paper, use of darkroom, welcome dinner and overnight accommodation (two nights).

Workshop fee does not include: other materials and anything else not expressly mentioned.

Accommodation: Tuition includes overnight staying in Sali d’Argento guest house apartments, with double/twin/triple room accommodation. It is anyway possible to manage any specific demand (use as single room) or in other local hotels, guest houses and b&b, according to availability.

Membership: Sali d’Argento membership (20,00 euro) is mandatory and not included in tuition; membership allows taking part to activities and expires on dec 31 of each year.
